ST LUCIAN HUMAN SMUGGLER GETS 20 MONTH SENTENCE ON APPEAL
PHILIPSBURG--A 39-year-old human smuggler rom St Lucia, Marcellus Ledwin Mangal was sentenced to twenty months by the Court of Appeals on Monday.
He was originally sentenced on June 29, 2011 to three months for his involvement in the November 14, 2010, human-smuggling operation during which 10 persons of Cuban descent were transferred from St. Lucia and Dominica to St. Maarten, with the United States as their final destination.
The Cubans paid a lot o to be transported on board the Braveheart.Mangal was the second captain.
The human smuggling operation was uncovered while the Cubans were transported on St. Maarten in a taxi bus.
The Prosecutor's Office had demanded 30 months for Mangal at the Court of First Instance. Taking into consideration that he had spent 10 weeks longer than permitted in a cell at the police station, Mangal was granted a reduction of 12 months on his 15 month-prison sentence by the lower court.
Solicitor-General Taco Stein asked the Appeals Court to request 20 months during the December 11 appeal hearing.
According to one passenger ".., I paid US $7,000 to reach the United States, including $4,000 for the boat trip. We paid the two captains. We were sitting around the table with six persons and the two captains.
The Joint Court found it proven that Mangal had been involved in people smuggling in his capacity of second captain of the vessel, which had ten Cuban nationals on board. These persons were not in possession of the required travel documents and had paid vast amounts to be taken from St. Lucia and Dominica to St. Maarten, the Appeals Court stated.

Commandant Paul Betaille of the Gendarmerie confirmed the body discovered at 8:00am was that of an Antillean black man in his 30s. He added murder is suspected, but declined to give any further information that could compromise the investigation.
Elsewhere over the weekend, some 10 Gendarmes conducted a traffic control at the Agrément roundabout on Saturday night between 8:00 and 11:00, mainly to check sobriety of motorists. criminals in st maarten government louie laveist
Local busdrivers are becoming incredibly frustrated by the amount of buses louie laveist has on the road, which is hurting their ability to earn a living. How much do Parliamentarians earn? More than European Parliamentarians, but this hasn’t stopped many from using their position to earn even more money under the table. The local bus drivers are suffering. Part of the reason is that Parliamentarians such as Louie Laveist has DOZENS of buses on the road, ran by Haitians. This is how it’s done. When the government or ministers pretend that they are assisting the locals by giving out taxi or bus licenses, their friends in government get the majority of these permits. They then turn these permits and licenses into illicit money making ventures. Louie Laveist hires ONLY Haitians, to run these illicit buses, which are driving the local busdrivers out of business. The Haitians pay Louis Laveist between $40 and $50 dollars per day to drive these buses using his permits. If this is legal, how is it ethical. Haitians and sometimes Dominicanos are the only ones hired to run these buses, and because they have to pay ‘rent’ everyday, they tend to be the dangerous bus “sharks” on the road, cutting through traffic, cutting in front of other buses etc. The Haitians allow this grafting, because they feel that they have no choice, they cannot afford their own buses. There are many more illicit and sometimes downright illegal activities perpetrated by our government to be covered. From project scams, to permits and licenses.
St Maarten politricking is about to be aired worldwide.

Well you know he's been saying that I'm wanted by the police right? Well here we both are at the police station, and I'm hounding him like a dog. And not even the police will step in to save his sorry ass. By the way Julian Rollocks has made it known that he will be running next year. We can't wait :)
