After Thelma and Michael King of South Carolina was murdered, a lot of international pressure was put on SXMPD to solve the case. St Maarten's only industry is tourism, and murders of tourists in SXM is a public relations nightmare for the locals who depend on the tourism industry, and the police dept. The police did a relatively efficient job, caught and prosecuted the three killers within months. Locals now call this "The King Treatment". The police and prosecutors office will go out of their way to solve high profile crimes of foreigners, however they ignore crimes against locals and people from neighboring islands. The police dept. gets props for doing a good job when it comes to the King case, but everyone who's a victim of crime in SXM deserve "The King Treatment". Most local crimes remain ignored, and unsolved.
